What is now the Main Hall was created as a Quaker worship space when the Friends’ Meeting House was first built. Although the interior was fully redesigned and refurbished in 1961, windows in the ceiling allow glimpses of the original 19th century beamed roof. The acoustics are excellent.
The Main Hall’s interior is simple and understated. We can offer a variety of layouts from the maximum capacity 142 theatre style, through speaker-style cabaret for 72, to a circle of 50 chairs – and many more options in between. There is a small pull-out stage that can be used as a podium for a panel of speakers. For dancing or rehearsal usage we can remove the chairs completely.
The Main Hall works really well for conferences, presentations, small exhibitions, or large board meetings. If you need a room with more space for an audience, you can hire the balconies as well.
The room has an in-built loop system (free of charge).
Equipment is available for hire, including data projector (with large screen), PA system and microphones. A wired internet connection is available to ensure excellent connectivity for hybrid events.
