Loving Earth Exhibition 28 October to 26 November 2022

Friends’ Meeting House is one of the Manchester venues hosting the Loving Earth Exhibition

The Loving Earth Project was started by Quakers in Glasgow in 2019 in preparation for COP26 in autumn 2021. The idea spread around the world and people from many countries have contributed.

This community sewing project invited participants to make small fabric panels to represent the places, creatures and other aspects of this world that we love and appreciate. The panels are also a form of protest against the gradual & unthinking destruction of that same wonderful world. The exhibition shows a mix of beautiful images of appreciation and saddening images of destruction and damage. The panels include a short explanation from the maker about why they made their panel and what it means to them.

Over 200 panels were made in total, and 76 of them will be on display in venues around Manchester. The exhibition is coinciding with COP27 in Egypt.

You can view panels from the exhibition at the Friends’ Meeting House from 12pm to 4pm on Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays during the exhibition dates (28 October to 26 November). We’ll have leaflets showing where else the panels are on display, and you can buy Loving Earth greeting cards (£1.50) and alphabet booklets (£4.00) from us as well.

Whether you’re attending an event or you want to make a special trip to see the panels you’ll be very welcome.

You can also see other panels at the following times & places:

Central Manchester Library, St Peter’s Square, M2 5DP: Monday – Saturday in Archives Library, City (lending) Library and Music department
